It's Squiggly, Jiggly, Wiggly Fun!

Mr. Kemplin, Mrs. Watson, Ms. Dana, and Mrs. Powell have some problems for you to solve about their visit to the aquarium. Choose one of the story problems to solve and identify the addition strategy that helped you find the sum. Then write your own story problem that uses the same addition strategy.

Mr. Kemplin's problem:

One time I took Jackson to the aquarium. He saw 4 red fish and 4 yellow fish. How many fish did he see in all?

Mrs. Watson's problem:

When Laura and Jackson went to the aquarium, they saw 8 jellyfish in one tank and two jellyfish in another tank. How many did they see in all?

Ms. Dana's problem:

Over fall break when Ms. Dana was at the aquarium, she saw 5 hammerhead sharks and 6 white sharks. How many sharks did she see in all?

Mrs. Powell's problem:

Mrs. Powell saw 9 penguins playing in the ice and one penguin swimming in the water. How many penguins did she see in all?

Happy Birthday!

We have read a party for Bob this week. He had a fun birthday. Think about a special birthday you have had.

Post about your favorite birthday memory.

Bob's Birthday Gifts

Bob had a great time at his birthday party. He got eight gifts in all. Some were toys and some were clothes. Think about two different combinations of gifts that he might have received for his birthday.
